At the federal level, we were proud to stand alongside survivors and lawmakers to introduce <strong data-end="378" data-start="360">Virginia’s Law</strong>, which would eliminate the statute of limitations for federal civil claims of sexual abuse—honoring the legacy of Virginia Roberts Giuffre and ensuring survivors are no longer denied justice because of time.</p>

** A message from WorldWE National Director, Lauren Hersh:

This month, our work reinforced a core principle that guides everything we do: survivor leadership must remain at the center of every policy, strategy, and campaign. At the federal level, we were proud to stand alongside survivors and lawmakers to introduce Virginia’s Law, which would eliminate the statute of limitations for federal civil claims of sexual abuse—honoring the legacy of Virginia Roberts Giuffre and ensuring survivors are no longer denied justice because of time.
At the same time, we are strengthening our state-level advocacy in New York by advancing the Victims Protection and Child Sex Buyer Accountability Act, which closes a dangerous loophole allowing adults who buy sex from 15–17-year-olds to face only misdemeanor charges. Together, these efforts prioritize survivor safety, shift accountability onto perpetrators, and demonstrate how survivor-centered policy drives meaningful, systemic change.

WorldWE In Action
Earlier this month, WorldWE Policy Director, Becca Zipkin, joined Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM) to introduce Virginia’s Law, legislation named in honor of the late Virginia Roberts Giuffre. The bill would eliminate the statute of limitations for federal civil claims of sexual abuse, ensuring survivors are no longer barred from civil recourse because of time. It represents a critical step toward accountability and honors Virginia’s extraordinary courage and legacy.
Last night, the WorldWE team joined Epstein survivors in Washington, D.C. for the State of the Union to continue our demand for full transparency and accountability. We will not move on until all the Epstein files are fully released.

Strategic Meetings with Members of Congress in Target Regions

We are planning a series of meetings with Members of Congress, with particular emphasis on offices representing the South, Midwest, and Southwest, as part of a targeted outreach strategy to engage policymakers in regions where our priorities, partnerships, and community impact are especially strong. Through these meetings, we aim to educate Members and their staff on the realities of human trafficking within their districts—highlighting local trends, survivor experiences, service gaps, and law enforcement challenges—while also seeking their support for federal anti-trafficking legislation, including newly introduced Virginia's Law.

Deadline Extended: DOJ Compensation Process for Victims Trafficked Through Backpage.com
------------------------------------------------------------
In December 2024, the Department of Justice forfeited over $200 million in assets traceable to Backpage’s profits. These funds are now available to compensate victims for eligible losses. Victims whose sex trafficking was facilitated through advertisements posted on Backpage.com between Jan. 1, 2004, and April 6, 2018, and who incurred financial losses related to their trafficking may be eligible for remission.
