Dear Ben,
As winter begins to loosen its grip and the first signs of spring return to Maine, we also find ourselves about to enter the final quarter of our business year. It’s a pivotal moment. Since the loss of federal funding this fiscal year, we have turned to you, our community, to help steady the path forward.
The response has been extraordinary. We are seeing record numbers of supporters step up to invest in Maine Public. That outpouring of commitment gives us real momentum. At the same time, sustaining this service in our new reality without federal funding will require ongoing, reliable support in the months and years ahead.
Your support sustains the essential journalism and programming that Maine people rely on every day, and it empowers us to keep strengthening the ways we serve communities across the state. What Your Support Makes Possible
Because of you, Maine Public continues to invest in local storytelling that reflects the character and concerns of our state.
This year, that includes local television productions like Borealis (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633043/4xSejqoY), which shines a light on Maine’s nature, and High School Quiz Show: Maine (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633044/4xSejqoY), which celebrates the curiosity and brilliance of students from communities across the state. We also expanded coverage of Maine high school sports, covering the field hockey championships in addition to our upcoming 48th year of high school basketball championship coverage (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633045/4xSejqoY), bringing the excitement and pride of tournament season to households statewide.
Your generosity also fuels in-depth journalism that digs deeper into the issues shaping Maine. The investigative journalism and accompanying podcast for Breakdown (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633046/4xSejqoY)had us collaborating with partners at Frontline and the Portland Press Herald to examine complex stories with care and rigor. We launched new podcasts to meet audiences wherever they are, and introduced new newsletters—planet maine (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633047/4xSejqoY), Storytelling (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633048/4xSejqoY), and Encore (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633049/4xSejqoY), our Classical newsletter—to deliver thoughtful reporting, creative work, and curated music directly to inboxes.
Across radio, television, digital, and community outreach, your support ensures we can provide journalism with depth and integrity, cultural programming that uplifts Maine voices, and connections that bring us together.Looking Ahead
As the days grow longer and we move toward the close of our first fiscal year under our new funding model, we are focused on building the sustained support necessary to keep Maine Public strong without federal funding. Record participation from supporters like you is a powerful sign of belief in this mission. Now, maintaining and growing that support will determine how confidently we step into the next year.
As always, the best way to ensure these services continue is with a donation or an extra gift (https://contact.mainepublic.org/s/4633050/4xSejqoY). Please help us finish this fiscal year with strength and stability. Your continued generosity ensures Maine Public can remain a trusted source of news, music, education, and storytelling for every corner of our state.
Thank you for being a valued part of the Maine Public community. Your commitment inspires us, sustains us, and allows us to do what we do best: keep Maine informed, connected, and engaged.
With gratitude,
Rick Schneider
